Those days must seem a long time ago for Datuk Patrick Lim Soo Kit.

Today, he must feel like a man with a bulls-eye on his back. The suave and well-turned out businessman has retreated to the background, hoping that the changing political structure will not leave him on the sidelines as it has many prominent Malaysian corporate figures over the year
.Think of Tan Sri Khoo Kay Peng, Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan, Datuk Nazri Abdullah and others who paid for their close association with either Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah or Anwar Ibrahim.

What was once a powerful calling card is now a liability for the man christened Patrick Badawi by his enemies. And make no mistake now that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s hold on power is tenuous, Patrick Lim’s enemies are coming out in droves.

Leading the charge is Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. In his column in The Sun today, the former prime minister implies that the former Terengganu mentri besar Idris Jusoh and the first family may have benefited from various mega-projects. He does not name the conduit. He does not have to.

It was Dr Mahathir who publicly accused Lim and Khairy Jamaludin of running Terengganu at the height of his public spat with Abdullah. By referring to him today, Mahathir is merely drawing on a reservoir of disdain, envy and anger against Patrick among Umno members.

His critics say that Patrick dropped Abdullah’s name at every turn, and that helped propel him into the big league and pages of society magazines. He hit the Malaysian corporate scene in the 1990s when – with the help of some financial backing from his wealthy father-in-law – his company started Equine Park, a housing development in Selangor.

As with many businessmen in Malaysia, he hitched his fortunes to the political master of the day. In the waning days of the Mahathir administration, he hung out with Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir, and they became thick friends. After Abdullah became the PM in October 2003, Lim started getting closer to Kamaludin, Abdullah’s only son. Within a short time, he made himself part of the inner circle, showing up when Abdullah and family members went on holidays.

By now, there was speculation that he was a nominee for Kamaludin. Within some government departments and states, there was little doubt that he had the ear of the PM, or at least he gave the impression he had.

He began to attract disdain and envy after he was selected by Abdullah to develop Pulau Duyong near Kuala Terengganu and organise the Monsoon Cup. In a short time, the Monsoon Cup has become a popular warm-up for teams planning an assault on the America’s Cup.

In the same time, rumblings started on the ground that Lim and Abdullah’s family were the main beneficiaries of the major infrastructure projects in the state. This was one of the sticky points between Idris Jusoh and the royal household in the recent battle over the Mentri Besar’s position. Lim was aware of the growing noise and attempted to hush it by pointing out of the many economic benefits which the Monsoon Cup brought to the state.

What he failed to realise was that the criticism had little to do with the race itself but was aimed at its promoter and benefactor in Putrajaya. Within Umno circles, they were peeved that a businessman, not one of their own, could wield so much influence and do it so openly.

If there was any doubt about Lim’s close ties with Abdullah it was swept away when the Prime Minister launched the Penang Global City Centre last year. The project – an ambitious plan to turn a tiny neighborhood into a sprawling metropolis – was fast tracked as a high-impact project under the National Implementation Task Force and put under the Northern Corridor.

Critics said that the project, to be developed on a 104-ha site now occupied by the Penang Turf Club, will create traffic jams, damage lush green areas and will be unsustainable. The new state government under Lim Guan Eng is not likely to approve the project unless it is scaled down.

Lim knows that his days of being in the frontline are over.

He will be collateral damage even if Abdullah survives this choppy period. It is the price that businessmen in Malaysia pay for being associated with certain political leaders. Tan Sri Halim Saad of the Renong Group and Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli were the poster boys of the Mahathir era and paid for the excesses associated with that time.

Only a handful of corporate figures have been able to be close to different political masters. Among them is Berjaya’s Vincent Tan. He has remained loyal to Dr Mahathir but managed to win the trust of Abdullah. But the publication of Dr Mahathir’s long and piercing attack on Abdullah on the front page of a newspaper closely associated with Tan suggests that he is hedging his bets.

One thing that Malaysia Today would like to raise is the matter of Terengganu’s oil royalty which we hope Mahathir will address on 28 July. Since the mid-1970s, Terengganu had been enjoying a 5% royalty On all the oil and gas extracted in the state. That is what is Provided for under the Petroleum Development Act.

In fact, not only Terengganu, but any state in Malaysia where oil and gas is extracted They would enjoy the same. However, in 2000, this royalty was Withdrawn and converted to Wang Ehsan (goodwill money). Suddenly, the RM800 million or so a year that Terengganu was supposed to get as its 5% share of the oil and gas revenue was transferred out of the state And into the hands of one man, Idris Jusoh.

Malaysia was then already suffering from an outbreak of JE. But in Terengganu it was JE of another kind, Jusoh Enterprise, Idris Jusoh’s Family business. Jusoh Enterprise or JE was suddenly flush with funds, RM800 million a year to be exact. Then, in 2004, Umno, under the Stewardship of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, won back the state from the Opposition. But the state did not win back its 5% oil royalty. The Wang Ehsan continued and Idris Jusoh, who now became the Chief Minister, continued to single-handedly manage the fund. Even the State Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and the Terengganu State Economic Planning Unit (UPENT) were left totally in the dark. One man, Idris Jusoh, decided how the money was spent, and it is a lot of Money.

But the new Prime Minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, would not tolerate One man managing the state coffers. He wanted Idris Jusoh hands Out of the RM800 million a year cash box. However, to revert to the 5% Royalty only meant that the money would come directly under state Control. That would not serve their purpose. They wanted direct Control of the RM800 million. Now it was under the control of the Prime Minister Department but passed down to Idris Jusoh hands. What they needed to do was to get Idris Jusoh’s hands out of the Equation.

Then Khairy Jamaluddin, Abdullah son-in-law cum adviser, came out With a fantastic new umbrella concept, better than even Mahathir. They wanted control of the RM800 million a year. But they did not want To get it out of Idris Jusoh hands by putting it into the hands of The state. That would merely be a case of out of the frying pan, into The fire. They wanted direct control of the money without Idris Jusoh Deciding on how the money is spent.

And this is how they did it.

First they appointed Wan Farid, Khairy ‘running dog’, as Abdullah Political Secretary. Then they appointed Wan Hisham, Wan Farid Brother, as the State Exco Member in-charge of tourism. Then they gave Patrick Lim, Khairy business partner, the sole monopoly of all state Tourism projects. Now the network is intact and Idris Jusoh has been Cut off.

Patrick Lim job is to create all sorts of state tourism projects at Hugely inflated prices. He would then propose these projects to Wan Hisham, the man in-charge of tourism. Wan Hisham would then pass them On to his brother, Wan Farid. Wan Farid would then pass them on to Khairy. Idris Jusoh would of course be left out of the loop and he Would only know about them when it was a fait accompli as the Malays would say, ‘Nasi sudah jadi bubur’.

They built 30 houses at RM1 million each on an island in the Terengganu River. They launched a RM300 million a year yacht race Called the Monsoon Cup. Hundreds of millions a year is being spent to attract tourists to Terengganu. It seems this year the amount of Wang Ehsan has shot up from RM800 million to RM1 billion – so there Is even more money to play around with.

To ensure that Idris Jusoh keeps his hands out of the cash box, Abdullah himself chairs the state meetings though he is the Prime Minister and not the Terengganu Chief Minister. Of course, Idris Jusoh, being the Chief Minister, is allowed to sit in on these Meetings though he has no say on what they propose. Patrick Lim, Though he is not in the government, is also allowed to attend these Meetings.

Abdullah would then propose all sorts of tourism projects concured by Wan Hisham, Wan Farid and Khairy. Details are of course not discussed; Only the gist of things and the amounts involved. Whenever Idris Jusoh Raises any questions, he would be told to leave it all to Patrick Lim Who knows what to do. Idris Jusoh is not to involve himself in the Details.

After awhile Idris Jusoh got quite pissed and tried to resist. One project that he knew nothing about was placed before him and he was told by Patrick Lim to sign the papers. But! how could he sign the papers when he knew nothing about it and would eventually have to bear responsibility for it?

Patrick Lim walked out of Idris Jusoh office and phoned Wan Farid who complained to Khairy. Within an hour Idris Jusoh received a phone call from Abdullah who ordered him to sign the papers, which he of course did straight away.

Patrick Lim hold on Abdullah was apparent to all but somehow not to Idris Jusoh. One day Abdullah visited Terengganu to chair the regular meetings on how to spend Terengganu RM800 million (which is now RM1 billion because of the increase in oil prices). Idris Jusoh fetched Abdullah from the airport but before his car could move Patrick Lim car cut in front of Idris Jusoh car and Abdullah got out of Idris Jusoh car and got into Patrick Lim car. Idris Jusoh should have realised then who really runs Terengganu.
Yes, RM1 billion a year is a lot of money. This money, which should belong to Terengganu, is not going to the state. It is going to Wan Hisham, Wan Farid, Patrick Lim and Khairy. And Abdullah chairs the state meetings to decide how the money is spent. And Wan Hisham, Wan Farid, Patrick Lim and Khairy help spend the money. And they spend it all. And Idris Jusoh has no say in how it is spent. And if he refuses to sign the papers he will get a phone call from Abdullah.

Now do you know who runs this country? Abdullah says he and not his son-in-law runs this country. Idris Jusoh however will tell you that Khairy runs this country. And Khairy also runs Terengganu and manages its RM1 billion a year through Wan Hisham, Wan Farid and Patrick Lim. And Abdullah chairs the Terengganu State meetings on behalf of Khairy and according to the plan on how Patrick Lim wishes to spend the RM1 billion a year.
And now do you know why Mahathir is so pissed? And he has every reason to be pissed. In fact, I too am pissed. And that is why I agree that Mahathir stays pissed with Abdullah and his son-in-law. The Terengganu issue alone is enough for me to get pissed. And rest assured that Terengganu is but the tip of the iceberg.

Yes, it is nice being able to walk in the corridors of power. And much can you do when you walk in the corridors of power. And RM1 billion a year is nice to manage if you have that power to do so. And when you walk in the corridors of power you would of course have that power.

U need not to be Deputy Minister………..as long as u have Pak Lah as father in law . Absolute power as absolute corruption!!!!

Dato Seri Tuan Guru merasakan filem yang tidak bertanggungjawab ini akan mencetuskan ketegangan antara masyarakat Islam dan bukan Islam dunia dan dengan itu mengesyorkan agar ianya tidak ditayangkan lagi.
Presiden PAS turut menyeru Pertubuhan Persidangan Islam (OIC), negara-negera Islam dan NGO serta badan dan petubuhan Islam lainnya mengenakan tekanan ke atas Belanda agar bertindak terhadap penerbit filem ini dan meyakinkan dunia Islam bahawa tindakan biadap seumpama ini tidak berulang lagi.

Tambah Dato Seri Tuan Guru, PAS menghormati kebebasan berkarya, namun ia perlu ada had dan batasan, dan dalam hal filem Belanda ini ia ternyata tidak menghormati sensitiviti agama Islam dan penganutnya yang kini merupakan hampir separuh penduduk dunia.

Jika Malaysia hari ini adalah negara Islam, bolehkah pilihan raya diadakan dengan umat Islam diberi pilihan untuk memilih antara Islam dan fahaman – fahaman selain Islam? Jawaban adalah mudah. Umat Islam tiada pilihan itu. Memilih selain Islam adalah keluar daripada Islam samada secara rasmi atau tidak.

Jika begitu, mengapa negara Malaysia hari ini mengadakan pilihan raya dengan memberi peluang kepada umat Islam memilih antara Islam dan fahaman – fahaman selainnya yang sekular? Jawaban adalah mudah. Malaysia bukan negara Islam. Malaysia tidak terikat dengan hukum di atas. Pemerintah tidak pernah merasa bersalah melanggar hukum tersebut kerana itu hanyalah hukum untuk setiap muslim, masyarakat muslim dan negara yang muslim. Adapun Malaysia, hukum itu tidak mengikat kerana Malaysia bukanlah negara Islam.

Islam adalah pilihan Allah yang satu. Maka setiap muslim terbatas pada pilihan Tuhannya itu. Dia tidak boleh memilih lagi selain Islam. Memilih selainnya adalah mengingkari, menderhaka dan melawan pilihan dan kehendak Allah. Maka dia telah keluar daripada Islam. Samada disahkan atau tidak, di sisi Allah dia telah murtad daripada Islam.

Ini adalah jelas dan muhkam dalam kenyataan al Quran, al Hadis dan kitab – kitab para ulama yang muktabar. Ia adalah ijma’ seluruh umat Islam.

Pilihan raya untuk memilih Islam atau selainnya dalam masyarakat Islam adalah tertolak dan salah. Ia ganjil bahkan mengarut. Justeru ia langsung mengesahkan Malaysia hari ini bukan negara Islam. Ia hanyalah negara umat Islam yang diperintah oleh pemimpin umat Islam yang sakit akhlak di zahirnya dan sakit akidah di batinnya. Umat Islam yang dipimpin oleh pemimpinnya yang sakit akan turut sakit. Sakit akhlak an sakit akidah. Sakit akidah membawa kepada murtad yang ditakuti.

Allah menamakannya Islam, sedang mereka menamakannya Islam Hadhari.

Allah menyuruh kepada Islam dan al Quran, sedang mereka menyuruh kepada sekular dan barat.

Allah memuliakan ulama, sedang mereka pula memerangi para ulama.

Mereka pula mahu merawat Kelantan, sedang yang sakit adalah mereka sendiri.

Mereka menawarkan Dato Awang Adek untuk Islam di Kelantan, sedang Kelantan sudah pun dipimpin seorang Tuan Guru untuk Islam di Kelantan.

Tidakkah ini terbalik?

Justeru pilihan raya di negara kita untuk umat Islam bukanlah pilihan untuk memilih yang mana satu. Ia buka pilihan, bahkan penegasan untuk menerima dan menonjolkan Islam di mata umat yang sedan sakit.

Oleh kerana hanya PAS yang menawarkan Islam untuk umat dan negara, maka ia adalah pilihan raya untuk mengundi PAS demi menegaskan keyakinan dan penerimaan kita kepada Islam dan penolakan kita terhadap sistem jahiliyah yang ada di bumi Malaysia. Pilihan selepas itu adalah sekular yang ditolak Islam. UMNO sekular dan pemerintah hari ini adalah sekular dasar mereka.

Kita diminta untuk memilih dalam pilihan raya ini antara Islam dan sekular. Tidakkah ini keceluparan terhadap Allah dan penghinaan terhadap RasuluLlah sallaLlahu alaihi wasallam?

Sebab itu mengundi PAS adalah wajib. Hanya PAS yang berani memerangi kebodohan ini secara langsung dan berdepan.

Kenali PAS cintai PAS sokong PAS undi PAS.

Bernama melaporkan, kesemua 22 anggota Dewan Undangan Negeri (Adun), yang sebelum ini tidak menyokong pelantikannya serta bekas Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, yang dinamakan sebagai Menteri Besar oleh pucuk pimpinan Barisan Nasional (BN) sebelum ini, menghadiri majlis angkat sumpah hari ini.

Istiadat di hadapan Pemangku Sultan Terengganu Tengku Muhammad Ismail Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, berlangsung di Balairong Seri, Istana Maziah di sini, tiga hari selepas Majlis Tertinggi (MT) Umno membuat keputusan menyokong pelantikan Ahmad sebagai Menteri Besar oleh Majlis Penasihat Pemangku Raja (MPPR) Terengganu.

Selepas melafazkan sumpah jawatan dan ikrar taat setia sebagai Menteri Besar, Ahmad, 51, yang juga Adun Kijal kemudian menandatangani surat pelantikannya.

Istiadat itu turut disaksikan oleh Yang Di-Pertua Majlis Penasihat Pemangku Raja (MPPR) Tengku Sri Panglima Raja Tengku Baderulzaman dan dua anggota MPPR iaitu Tengku Sri Laksamana Raja Tengku Sulaiman Sultan Ismail dan bekas Hakim Mahkamah Persekutuan Datuk Abdul Kadir Sulaiman.

Semua Adun Terengganu termasuk daripada parti pembangkang menghadiri majlis hari ini. Dengan berpakaian baju Melayu serba hitam, Menteri Besar baru itu kelihatan tenang sepanjang berlangsungnya majlis itu.

Bagaimanapun sebelum beredar meninggalkan majlis, Ahmad kelihatan terharu apabila beliau bersalaman dengan Idris dan memeluk bekas Menteri Besar itu dalam keadaan penuh emosi.

Beliau turut bersalaman dengan Adun yang menghadiri majlis itu.

Sebanyak 22 Adun dari BN sebelum ini membantah pelantikan Ahmad dan beberapa orang daripada mereka bersedia meletakkan jawatan sebagai Adun jika Idris tidak dilantik semula sebagai Menteri Besar untuk penggal kedua.

Jaminan tiada usul undi tak percaya

Sementara itu, Adun Ajil Dato’ Rosol Wahid hari ini memberi jaminan barisan Adun BN tidak akan akan membawa usul undi tidak percaya terhadap Menteri Besar baru pada sidang DUN, yang perlu diadakan dalam tempoh tiga bulan ini.

Beliau berkata krisis pelantikan Menteri Besar yang berlaku sebelum ini sudah cukup meresah dan mengelirukan rakyat dan Umno Terengganu merasakan bahawa tidak perlu lagi timbul perkara-perkara yang dikhuatiri boleh menjejaskan imej parti pada pandangan mata rakyat.

“Kita boleh beri jaminan tidak akan ada apa-apa masalah selepas ini, sebab yang mendukung kita sekarang ialah rakyat. Jadi kita nampak, tidak perlu lagi timbul isu-isu yang meresahkan rakyat. Hari ini telah masuk tiga hingga empat minggu rakyat resah dengan kemelut ini.

“Bagi mereka yang faham, tidak ada masalah, tetapi bagi yang kurang faham, mereka merasakan ini seolah-olah perbalahan berebut jawatan dalam Umno.

“Jadi saya yakin (persidangan) Dewan DUN nanti akan berjalan dengan lancar dan baik kerana matlamat kita adalah rakyat sebagaimana yang dinyatakan oleh Pengerusi Perhubungan Umno, mana yang baik untuk rakyat, itulah yang terbaik untuk kita,” katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian ketika ditemui selepas majlis serah terima tugas jawatan Besar Terengganu daripada Idris kepada Menteri Besar baru Datuk Ahmad Said di Wisma Darul Iman di sini hari ini.

Selepas ini, satu lagi majlis angkat sumpah akan diadakan untuk anggota Exco kerajaan negeri, apabila Ahmad selesai menyediakan senarai pelantikan dalam masa kira-kira 10 hari lagi.

BN menang 24 daripada 32 kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Terengganu manakala selebihnya dimenangi oleh PAS. – mks.
